Free TBEX10 Tickets (yes, free)

As big fans of the concept of TBEX, and fans of its creators and organizers, we decided to get our clients involved as sponsors this year, and of course, attend ourselves.  We snatched up our tickets as soon as we saw they were for sale, as did many others apparently – since it sold out months in advance of the June event.

Anything you can do, I can do better. No you can’t (seriously).

In an age where everyone claims to be able to do everything, is anything actually getting accomplished?

During this week’s company meeting, we were discussing a potential client who was currently retaining a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) firm as their agency of record. That firm is charged with handling all public relations initiatives including media relations. I’m all for SEO. I think it’s a valuable tool that is necessary to increase web traffic and propel a topic or business to the top of the online heap. An SEO firm, however, has no business claiming to be a PR firm. That’s like being a dentist who says he can perform boob jobs. If you paint spots on a house cat, does that make it a cheetah? I don’t think so. (read more)

Oops… I tweeted

To our fabulous clients and prospectives….we feel your pain.  You’ve been urged to jump on the social media bandwagon and have Facebook down to a science, but now, it’s time to tweet.  We’ve stressed the importance of having a voice on Twitter, yet you really just don’t want to do it.  Too time consuming and does anyone really care what you have to say anyway?  The answer is yes!  If done right your Twitter feed can be cheeky, fun and a cool way of engaging everyone from the media to those you really want to know….your consumer.  Let’s start slow….(read more)

Smooth Seas Don’t Make Good Sailors

Six months into my first PR job, I was having one of those “days.”  Everything was a challenge.  By mid afternoon this resulted in a total meltdown over a media tip sheet stuck in a fax machine. (Yes, I come from the days when releases/tip sheets were sent via fax and mail!)  My boss walked in, handed me one of those rough bathroom paper towels and with no emotion or sympathy stated, “Honey, smooth seas don’t make good sailors.” (read more)
