The phenomenon of tweet ups has peaked and everyone is either hosting or attending them - whether planned in advance or impromptu - most in the Twitter world have heard of, if not been to, a tweet up. I’ve seen tweet-ups at hotels, bars, restaurants, parks, ball games and bathrooms (ok, maybe not bathrooms, but bars are definitely the most popular). Diamond PR is even hosting a “Taco Truck Tweet Up” at the end of TBEX (follow us for details on the location). But I’ve still yet to see an “In-Flight Tweet Up” with fellow travelers while 30,000 feet up… until now?
In an age where social media is quickly becoming king; conferences are held via Skype; and Facebook “friends” and Twitter “followers” make an entourage; is the Big Apple still the be-all, end-all of publicity?
In PR, we are constantly asked to forecast numbers and potential return on investment (the dreaded ROI) for our clients before we can move forward and implement the fun, brilliant and sometimes off the wall campaigns we have created. Mostly, we get this question when it has to do with… drum roll… social media. (read more)

As big fans of the concept of TBEX, and fans of its creators and organizers, we decided to get our clients involved as sponsors this year, and of course, attend ourselves. We snatched up our tickets as soon as we saw they were for sale, as did many others apparently – since it sold out months in advance of the June event.

Recently, we’ve heard about people in the Twittersphere seeking these now elusive tickets and realized we had a solution, at least for three of those people… (read more)

In an age where everyone claims to be able to do everything, is anything actually getting accomplished?

During this week’s company meeting, we were discussing a potential client who was currently retaining a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) firm as their agency of record. That firm is charged with handling all public relations initiatives including media relations. I’m all for SEO. I think it’s a valuable tool that is necessary to increase web traffic and propel a topic or business to the top of the online heap. An SEO firm, however, has no business claiming to be a PR firm. That’s like being a dentist who says he can perform boob jobs. If you paint spots on a house cat, does that make it a cheetah? I don’t think so. (read more)

Six months into my first PR job, I was having one of those “days.” Everything was a challenge. By mid afternoon this resulted in a total meltdown over a media tip sheet stuck in a fax machine. (Yes, I come from the days when releases/tip sheets were sent via fax and mail!) My boss walked in, handed me one of those rough bathroom paper towels and with no emotion or sympathy stated, “Honey, smooth seas don’t make good sailors.” (read more)
